Hi y’all! It’s been 9 years since we took over, and by we, I mean Cono, Edward and Fiona. It’s impossible to deny that it’s been a ride. Not only because taking over a school that’s been open since 1980 has its challenges, but also because of everything we’ve been through since then, the pandemic, remote lessons, going back to class in masks and then little by little just trying to get back to normal life. You know, the ebb and flow of human life. For now though we just want to say thanks for your support and welcome to the new course.
Thanksgiving and Black Friday!
Do you go bargain hunting on Black Friday?
More and more people in Europe have jumped on the retail bandwagon and adopted the American shopping day Black Friday. For consumers, it’s great: amazing deals and a chance to kick-start the Christmas season; what could be wrong with that, right?
Many people, however, see things somewhat differently. First of all, those who live outside America can experience a sense of cultural alienation when it comes to celebrating festivals that are not rooted in their own culture. In the USA, Black Friday is the first day following the Thanksgiving holiday so it makes sense for people to hit the shops. Elsewhere though, where there is no Thanksgiving tradition it can just seem a bit random. As shoppers, we feel pressured into buying things we may not necessarily need. Furthermore, many retailers claim that Black Friday is not profitable for them as people buy their Christmas gifts in November and don’t spend at all in December.
Like it or loathe it, it looks like Black Friday is here to stay. Perhaps the best solution then is to copy the Americans and tuck into a nice roast turkey and a piece of delicious pumpkin pie! Happy Thanksgiving!
